A Few of My Favorite (Holiday Baking) Things: Krusteaz Sugar Cookie Kit

The Nana (my mother) is in this week from Florida. I had these fantasies of have the ultimate holiday with Little Miss, The Nana, and I baking our little hearts out and singing carols all warm and cozy in the kitchen. Well, as we all know, with children things rarely work out the way you want and the best laid plans usually dissolve in a flood of tears and screaming (sometimes from you, sometimes from your child). I am happy to report that this time, reality lived up to the fantasy and all because of a wonderful box of Christmas goodness, the Krusteaz Sugar Cookie Kit that we picked up at Target. The box contains everything you need to make some holiday magic happen. For less than $10 you get everything you need to make five and a half dozen sugar cookies, the icing for the cookies, three cookie cutters, green and red food coloring for the icing, and green and red sugar sprinkles. I have to admit that I was very skeptical. Just add water? Really, hows good could they taste? The powdered icing would surely taste bitter and too sweet right? WRONG! These cookies taste GREAT and the icing is perfect- not too sweet and not bitter at all. I can't believe how easy it all was- no refrigerating of the dough, no struggle to roll it out. It was so simple and easy to do, even for little ones. Little Miss had a great time cutting out the cookies with her new cutters, and she had a blast decorating with the icing. It is more of a spreading icing than a piping icing, but she could easily sprinkle the colored sugar on them and they look really cute. If there are some of these kits left over after Christmas, I am going to pick them up for later- you could easily use other kinds of cutters and dye the icing with food coloring to make Easter or Spring cookies later in the year. This is a fantastic kit- I highly recommend it.

Thanks for sharing! Krusteaz is a great brand. We LOVE their blueberry muffin mix, their buttermilk pancake mix, and their blueberrry pancake mix!

They forgot the axiom, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. We loved the cookies, too, but they changed the formula. Now instead of just adding water, you have to add an egg and butter. Not only do the cookies have more calories, they're lousy.
