Great Northwest Giveaway Review: Lilipip

The last time I took Little Miss and Mr. Man to the doctor for checkups, we spent 15 minutes in the waiting room and 20 minutes in a little box of an exam room. I hate that time spent just wrangling the two kids, wishing I would have remembered to bring a book, and generally trying to keep them from tearing the place apart like a 1980's hair band. In these technologically blessed times, there should be a better answer, right?
Well, thankfully, there is and it is called Lilipip. Based here in Seattle, Lilipip is a website created to help parents take full advantage of these little "teach-able" moments. Whether it is on a plane, in line at the grocery, waiting at the bank, or even at the doctor's office, Lilipip has a solution in the form of great little "Pipclips".

The Lilipip tag line is "feeding curiosity daily" and it stems from founder, and mom, Ksenia Oustiougova's son who was, like most toddlers, full of questions. In an interview with Ksenia today, she shared with me some of the ideas and plans for Lilipip, and I have to tell you, they have some great ideas.
According to Ksenia, Lilipip strives to be something that "can bring parents and kids together in the small moments that they have."

"There are three things that a parent will not leave home without: their wallet, keys and a cell phone. I couldn't take my laptop with me everywhere I went but I had a blackberry and so, I thought it would be great if I could have educational videos on it to show my son."

And so, the idea for Lilipip was born. Ksenia and her crew went on to win Best Consumer Product Idea Prize for their Business Plan at the University of Washington MBA Business Plan Competition in 2006.
Although Lilipip is still in Beta, you can see some awesome Pipclips on the site, and you can download them and own them for only .99 cents. You are then free to use them on your computer or portable media device. For a limited time there are also five free Pipclips for you to download and enjoy.
What Lilipip needs now is community involvement. They have a forum set up on the site so that you, the user, can give Lilipip feedback on what you would like to see in the future.

"We would like to be a library of sorts, a place where you can come with your child to find information on anything and everything. We want to inspire, and create free thinkers."

I really applaud Ksenia and her team for their awesome vision. "We want to do the impossible." she says, and I can't help but believe that they will have success.

So jump on over to Lilipip, watch some really cool Pipclips, and join the community. You can help build a place where kids can watch educational content, safely, and without fear. They can then take the pipclips with them, and you can enjoy the teachable moments that happen each day. They also have a great blog that you should add to your list of daily reading.

Lilipip is donating a $15 gift certificate for the winner of the Northwest Giveaway, but you don't have to win the giveaway to try out a few pipclips for free- click here to view and enjoy!

Thank you to Ksenia for being my first "live" interview here on Baby Buy Products! Here is a picture of the Lilipip team in action at their Seattle office. Don't they look like they are having a great time?
