Babies: How to treat your baby's cold

Your baby's cold can be as difficult for you as it is in it. But you can help relieve the discomfort of your baby and prevent the infection from getting worse by ensuring that you receive adequate rest and fluids, including formula or breast milk if she is less than four months old. Older babies can have a little water, and for six months, you can start drinking juices.

To relieve congestion, try squeezing slightly saline-counter drops in each nostril, then suctioning with a rubber bulb syringe after a few minutes to remove the mucus and liquid. This works well about fifteen minutes before a meal if it is difficult for your baby breathes through the nose during lactation. A little Vaseline on the outside of the nose your baby can help reduce irritation.

Sitting next to you in a steam bath, while the hot water in the shower for 15 minutes, or use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier to increase moisture in your baby's room should also help to provide some relief for her. A warm bath could also work, and could provide some additional comfort her.
Lying on a gentle slope, may also help relieve postnasal drip. However, do not use pillows in her crib to accomplish this, the risk of suffocation is too great. Try placing a pair of rolled-up towels between the crib springs and mattress, or you can try that allows sleeping in his chair in a slightly vertical.

Be sure to contact your pediatrician at the first sign of any disease in a baby less than three months of age, especially in cases of fever of 100.4 degrees or if you have a cough. Your pediatrician can give you guidance on what constitutes a fever in older infants. If the baby's symptoms do not improve within five to seven days, her cough worsens, she wheezing or gasping (pneumonia possible respiratory syncytial virus or RSV), or pulling the ear (possible ear infection), the pediatrician must also be notified immediately.
