Ubud: Up Close & Personal
When I finished reading "Eat, Pray, Love" a couple of years, I fantasized about moving Ubud, find a nice house in Bali through a rice paddy with a yoga studio right down the street.
When actually landed in Ubud for the first time This summer, I could not believe my eyes: the picturesque village of artists planned is actually a bustling mecca of restaurants, art galleries, jewelers, cafes and spas – not a yoga studio in sight, much less a spare square inch of the sidewalk legs legs tried to maneuver with children. Note to self: Ubud is not the place to bring a stroller; better with a Kelty backpack carrier, sure.
Even in the "slow" season is considered from October to April, Ubud is a hive of activity. Despite the pace, however, is a different energy here it feels deeper, more land than many of the coastal villages, to climb the mountain and the temperature drops a few degrees, coconut, banana, and banyan tree plumeria hover over rocky cliffs with views, streams. You have to take their time in Ubud. Not the kind of place to spend half days and feel like you've really seen what it has to offer.
The best strategy is to spend a few days and take every street slowly, buy an hour and then people see the inside a coffee and a fresh watermelon juice or ginger tea. A great reminder that some of the shops specialize in parachute fabric is a double hammock layer, are bright, durable and will remind the families of Bali in the coming years. The jewelry selection is amazing, lounge, organic fabric clothing stores men and women, and very funny lines of children, such as dandelion Baby will tempt you at every turn.
There is art everywhere, good and bad. Discard the size, Che Guevara beret and sporting portraits duck on a art galleries of Ubud unintelligent as T-Artspace exhibitions featuring contemporary artists from Indonesia. Just around the corner you find Ganesha bookshop which has a fabulous collection of books and the Buddha Bali Bali, Ubud hippie set to go for a great vegetarian food, organic needs and products manufactured locally.
If you are in a warmer mood, head to the bright and beautiful two-story target = "www.balispirit.com / nightlife / ubud-night-life.html"> Laughing Buddha Bar for a bowl of wonton soup, shrimp and amazing live music almost every nights a week. And if you feel very playful, head to the lowly Naughty Nuri, with the most famous martini on the island. A great place to call home is the foundation of the moon Pension honey that is within walking distance to everything and offers a fabulous cooking school as icing on the cake.
